Beautiful, Bold, Modern, Minimalistic: HEATHER LJØNES Jewelry NYC

hljones logoI had the pleasure of first meeting Heather Ljønes while attending The SET NYC’s Fashion Night Out event. I was immediately drawn to her displays, which were like pieces of art that had been formed into jewelry. Heather’s aesthetic is not only eye catching, it is also very innovative. I had the chance to interview the talented jewelry designer and get to know a little bit more about what makes her unique and creative. Read on to see what she had to say…

Tech & Fashion: Smart Accessories

Even though it may seem like it, wearable technology is not a new phenomenon. The products however, are becoming more fashionable and more of what you actually would want to wear. Wearable technology is getting more fashion forward and actually looks chic while being smart!

One To Watch – A Chat With Emerging Designer: Satu Maaranen

Last Tuesday, I attended the Première Vision NY and Indigo NY (textile and print design shows), for Fall-Winter 14/15. I This was the first time the two shows have been combined into one big event. I had a great time checking out the predicted print and textile trends for next year.

Right before I left the shows, I noticed a “featured display” corner of fashion and photography work that was so unique and creative. It ended up belonging to the winning designer of this year’s Hyères International Festival of Fashion & Photography  competition, which partners with Première Vision. The designer was Satu Maaranen, who hails all the way from Helsinki! I was glad chat with her a little about her design aesthetics and the competition.

Throwback Thursday: Hey, I Made You A Mixtape!

USB tape feature image

I might be showing my age with this post… who cares the 80’s & 90’s were great decades to grow up in! I used to love buying blank cassette tapes, setting up my boombox on the floor in my bedroom, recording my very own (introduction only) “radio show”,  and then adding live radio music or other tapes to complete my segment of the day. It took great skills to release the pause and press both the play and record buttons simultaneously… skills I tell you!

ANYWAY… Times have changed.

Today with the advancement of digital music, from time to time I get nostalgic and miss old school cassette tapes. But, there’s still hope…

Spot the next fashion trend – Trend Prediction

Trend prediction logo

If you have been reading this blog for awhile you will remember the interview we did with Vicky Nicholls of Twisted Angle. She has created a membership based website portal for all things “knitty fashion” for the independent knitter or professional designer. Vicky recently launched a new website – Trend Prediction,  which offers a platform to learn the professional way to predict colors and themes for all seasons. I have to say, it’s pretty cool and innovative.

The Eco Fashion Movement of 2013…

garyharveynewspaperdress feature

“Being green is the new black”…. I know this has been said many times before, but I completely agree with that statement! I don’t think sustainable fashion will ever go out of style. I think we’re just now starting to see more and more evidence of the “Eco Fashion Movement” becoming more popular over the last few years. From the quirky challenges on Project Runway to the noted “true pioneer of eco-chic” Stella McCartney to the increasingly popular DIY fashion and accessory creations on such global websites as Etsy.com… we have seen the idea of being “fashion conscious” take on a very new concept.

Eco-Fashion Eye (Wood) Wear

Eco-friendly apparel and accessories are nothing new, but there has been an increased shift in taping into making items more fashion forward at the same time. There are designer clothing labels taping into this concept which many hope to make a “style, instead of just a trend” within the industry. (sidenote: check out www.fashionmegreen.com)

The most recent eco-fashion trend accessories movement that I have been noticing, has been to create sustainable and eco-friendly eyewear.
