Rocky Mountain Style – DENV3R.CO, Colorado Inspired Apparel

2016-03-12 06.58.02
Quick fact about me… I am originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. I am also currently in the process of moving across the country from New Jersey to California, with a pit stop where? You guessed it Colorado. I never used to like to represent Colorado that much because all people would seem to think of was skiing and hiking and since I do neither I always felt like I shouldn’t represent what I don’t feel like I belong to.
Other than the recent legalization of weed, my home state had also always been known for the beauty in the natural surroundings, fresh (but thin) air, Vail/Aspen/Breckenridge and the most majestic mountains of all Pikes Peak. When visiting here you could find your typical souvenir apparel that represented Colorado as a nice place to visit, but most recently a new fashion apparel line is seeking to make a statement that Colorado is also a cool place to be from! It’s also cool that two things that are inherent in me (being from Colorado and loving fashion), are now tied together in one smart brand – DENV3R.CO Continue Reading

FFANY logo

It’s #FootwearFriday!! One of the reasons that I love footwear is because it’s one of the easiest accessories to use to update or upgrade any outfit. Throw on a white tee and jeans with a colorful funky heel and your look is automatically fashion forward!
On Tuesday, I had the pleasure to attend the 2015 FFANY Shoe Show and Spring 2016 Trend Presentation.  I’m always interested in seeing the newest shapes, innovative materials, and new brands within accessories and in the industry as a whole. So you can imagine how exciting it was to be invited to see the upcoming trends in the footwear industry!

Brooklyn’s Atlantic Avenue – An Emerging Fashion Hotspot!

On Wednesday, October 23 the Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District held two walking tours for members of the press. One tour focused on home decor/design and the other focused on fashion apparel/beauty establishments along Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn located between Barclay’s and Brooklyn Bridge Park. I had the pleasure of being invited on the “fashion” walking tour. I have to say I was really excited to see why “many shoppers now come from other boroughs to check out the fashion and design trends that are converging here”, as noted by the AABID Executive Director Josef Szende.

Could John Galliano be the perfect fit for Oscar de la Renta?

It was inevitable really. From the moment the willowy, doll-like models went swooping down Oscar de la Renta’s runway in New York in February, the rumour mill went into overdrive.

De la Renta’s fall/ winter 2013 collection had all the hallmarks of a typical Oscar collection- lavish evening gowns, stunning prints, the most luxurious fabrics cut draped and pin-tucked to perfection- but, to the fashionably trained eye there was something else present among the layers of bustling silk and taffeta. A mere hint of playfulness, the slightest suggestion of irony. There was definitely no mistaking John Galliano’s influence in this collection.

One To Watch – A Chat With Emerging Designer: Satu Maaranen

Last Tuesday, I attended the Première Vision NY and Indigo NY (textile and print design shows), for Fall-Winter 14/15. I This was the first time the two shows have been combined into one big event. I had a great time checking out the predicted print and textile trends for next year.

Right before I left the shows, I noticed a “featured display” corner of fashion and photography work that was so unique and creative. It ended up belonging to the winning designer of this year’s Hyères International Festival of Fashion & Photography  competition, which partners with Première Vision. The designer was Satu Maaranen, who hails all the way from Helsinki! I was glad chat with her a little about her design aesthetics and the competition.

Recently, Riccardo Tisci presented the men’s Givenchy S/S 2014 collection in Paris. There was something that stood out too me when the models started to walk the runway and many others saw it as well just as you probably have. Yes, the men are wearing leggings or “meggings” as some would call them. Continue Reading

Sophia Webster Shoes + Revlon Lipstick = Fun and Flirty Footwear

Feature image

Suede, it’s a material more commonly associated with shoes than with make-up. However, that was not that the case when shoe designer Sophia Webster was inspired by Revlon’s latest lipstick collection for a new line of footwear. Suede by Sophia is fun and flirty heels based off of lipstick shades.

So why, then, was I so shocked to hear of Webster’s, latest collection, named Suede by Sophia? Well, for starters, the shoes in the collection are not made exclusively from suede; there is plenty of glossy patent leather and vinyl involved too. Webster, who happens to be the shoe designer of the moment, has collaborated with cosmetics giant, Revlon, to produce a capsule collection inspired by the rich and sumptuous colors of Revlon’s ColorStay Ultimate Suede lipstick range. Confused? Well, allow me to explain.

It’s Time For A Cruise With Fashion’s Resort Collections For 2014

Image One feature

It’s that special time of year again, when our minds drift into the fantastical yet hectic land of fashion. Silhouettes, prints and patterns, trends in, trends out, sumptuous silks and rich taffetas in a whole rainbow of colors to choose from; these are the thoughts that deluge us daily. This can only mean one thing: we are caught in the throes of yet another fashion week. This time, it is the resort collections that have got our heads in a fashion spin.

Over the last few weeks we have seen our favorite luxury fashion labels, from Paris to New York to London, release their resort collections for 2014. And what a spectacle it has been! Come November, and even sooner knowing the high-street, there will be plenty of fresh stylish bounty for us to get our manicured hands on. Expect to see lots of tribal print, particularly on kaftans and maxi-dresses, super luxe over-sized silk t-shirts, and tailored trousers cut above the ankle. Key colors will include the classic bright white and jet black monochrome duo, tropical yellow and lagoon blue with playful accents of purple and orange.
