Californian cult label, Banana Republic, is almost as well known for its innovative and highly successful collaborations as it is for its effortless, all American style. Last Summer saw Banana Republic join forces with fellow Californian, Trina Turk. This latest stylish collaboration, with New York based label Milly NY by Michelle Smith, could possibly be Banana Republic’s most lucrative to date. Continue Reading
Another month has gone by in the blink of an eye… we are literally halfway through 2013! Can you believe it? We had some fun and exciting blog posts during May, so here’s my list of the top 10 highlights of last month.
Being your best is about giving 100% of yourself, and that’s in mind, body, spirit-emotion. Its all one hundred percent. Too many times as women we place ourselves in the backseat of our appearance (I’ve been guilty of that too), but once you see the affects it does to your mind and spirit, you will really change from doing that- and this is what I have done in my personal life.
I want to dive into the physical aspect of ourselves and that is the Presentation. How you present yourself speaks volumes. How you dress yourself from day to day, shows who you are, how you feel from within about yourself and the environment or space around you.
Dress like you mean it! Continue Reading
Aside from a few sporadic days, teasing us with a taste of what summer might become, the sun has yet to put in a noteworthy appearance. Nevertheless, fashion’s finest delivered a variety of very worthy summer collections, with clashing patterns and bold colours taking precedence. One particular colour that strikes a note for this spring/summer is (bright) yellow.
Sickly neon, bitter-sweet lemon, subtle mustard and bold dandelion are all note-worthy shades. Though be warned if, like me, your skin is suffering the trauma of a frost-bitten winter, try wearing yellow accessories as an accent colour. A fluro yellow clutch and stilettos will add interest to a monochrome dress, plus it is an easy way to work two trends in one outfit.
There are two things that top my “Summer Must Haves” list for maintaining great style when the temps start to rise. 1- Wearing maxi dresses as often as possible, and 2- Pairing them with great statement jewelry to complete the look. That’s where New York based Bess Heitner Jewelry Designs comes into the picture. This amazingly beautiful line of unique and creative jewelry items, are truly wearable pieces of art.
Last week’s Fashion Star “It’s Getting Hot In Here” episode challenge was all about warm weather looks. The themes for the challenge included “Tropical Vacation”, “Pool Party” and “Summer in the City”. The designers worked in groups on their “mentor teams” and were challenged to create a collection that was inspired by their given theme.
It may not be Summer yet, but Spring is truly starting to appear. This means more chances to enjoy the weather outdoors and for many soon heading to the beach will become part of the routine. Below I used one of the (now sold out) winning looks, a maxi dress by Designer Cassandra Hobbins. I styled her easy breezy beach dress with accessories all from the same store -Express.com

One of my goals for 2013 is to attend more fashion shows, events and exhibits. So, when a friend of mine told me about the Stephen Burrows: When Fashion Danced retrospective exhibit, we made immediate plans to check it out. I went this Sunday and it was absolutely perfect!
As we entered the exhibit there was a striking image of Grace Jones in one of Stephen Burrows, early designs. The feeling of excitement came over me as I then noticed soul dance music from the 60s & 70’s playing over the loud speakers. Continue Reading
The scenario is all too familiar: You have an important event in the next few weeks and, you find yourself in a slight panic as wait for it, you have nothing to wear! Don’t freak out just yet because there is there is still time to plan and plus freaking out will do you more harm than good.
To ensure you do not end up wearing the same outfit as another guest (cringe!). Going vintage is a safer option to ensure this does not happen. I have recently discovered VV vintage.com , a cool online store by British singer/model; VV Brown.
The online vintage clothing site re launched in January 2012 and has been going down a storm in the UK. Just in case you are not familiar with VV brown, she is a gorgeous, pop rock/soul singer who is well known for her unique and quirky style.
What is different about this site is that it celebrates recycling and reinvention and emerging designers. What is even more exciting about this site it is working with charity, Oxfam and 10% of all profits will go to this charity.
Below are three outfit options from vvvintage.com that will definitely make you look stylish and stand out from the crowd!
This bright pink 80s dress is a statement piece and screams :’look at me now’. This dress is fun, bold and beautiful and would look good teemed with a sexy pair of black wedges or even a printed wedge.
If your event calls for more of an evening wear outfit, why not opt for a jumpsuit instead of a long gown?
These next two jumpsuits are divine.
The first option is a velvet jumpsuit which just looks so elegant, teem this jumpsuit with a with a gorgeous pair of strappy sandals , a black pair of platform shoes or a fab ankle boot – (as seen in the photo).
Option two is this beautiful silk pink jumpsuit! Wear this jumpsuit with a chunky black platform sandal or a black ankle boot.
On a final note, whatever you choose to wear the main thing is that you feel confident, sexy and fashion fabulous!!

At the young age of 9, Monique Glover, CEO/Designer of ZYEM, knew that she wanted to become a fashion designer. It all began with a PBS special she happened to be watching about an African man who designed clothing for a prince. She was immediately intrigued with the colorful illustrations, the beautifully draped pieces in elaborate fabrics. Monique knew at that very moment she wanted to create these same beautiful pieces one day. She soon began on her journey of pursuing that goal, while at the Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts she was able to build on her natural skills of drawing and creativity. Furthering her education in the arts she attended Pratt Institute for Fashion Design, where she realized that learning about fashion was more than drawing something cool, it was about executing wearable art.
After 12 years in the fashion industry, designing for various brands, traveling to Europe, Hong Kong and India, studying art and observing NYC’s pop culture; Monique’s “PBS special” dreams were becoming a reality. In 2011, she launched a Lifestyle Brand named after her little prince, her son Zyem (which means leader). ZYEM is a Brooklyn, NY based company creating garments that are fit for kings and queens, promoting a Continue Reading
