Another month has gone by in the blink of an eye… we are literally halfway through 2013! Can you believe it? We had some fun and exciting blog posts during May, so here’s my list of the top 10 highlights of last month.
Even though the event is truly about the exhibition and the fundraising efforts for the institute, the red carpet is the kickoff (and extra highlight) of the exhibition. I’m quite sure that by now you have seen the thousands of images online and read the reviews for this year’s Met Gala red carpet arrivals, as most blogs put up their posts the next morning or that night. However, I’m late to the party as usual, because I like to do my research and make sure I comb through as many images as possible and include background info. So finally, here it is…
Last night celebrities, designers, stylists, fashion and music lovers came out to the 4th Annual ELLE Women in Music celebration event sponsored by COVERGIRL at The Edison Ballroom in New York City. The celebration coincides with their May 2013 Women in Music issue with powerhouse singer/artist Adele as one of the featured artists.
Yesterday afternoon Essence Magazine held their 6th Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. This year’s theme was “The Power of Our Presence“. The room was filled with the who’s who of Black Hollywood (and Entertainment) as well as those just beginning their career.
Among the honorees were Oprah Winfrey, Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Union, Mara Brock-Akil, Naomie Harris, and young Oscar nominee – Quvenzhané Wallis. Continue Reading
I know I may be late with this post, and by now you probably have seen all of the red carpet images from “the fashion industry’s big night out” plasters throughout the internet. There are various blog posts on all the looks, best and worst dressed lists, the scandal behind Kim K’s non-invite, and how great the exhibit is in general. Even with all that said, now that the exhibit is open to the public I still wanted to give my two cents. 😉
For some reason I felt like the American Music Awards were not as publicized as in past years, so I was not sure who was expected to be there, who would be performing, or which artists were up for what awards… I have to say it was more fun to watch and find out!! 😉
I missed the Red Carpet arrivals, but after reviewing several websites pictures these were my fav looks of the night:

For the first time I felt like many of the red carpet dresses were somewhat boring in comparison to the shoes worn with them… Here are a few of the fabulous shoes that caught my eye:Images courtesy of www.zimbio.com
The show was one of the best I had seen in awhile (meaning usually I have to change the channel during a performance), and I also was not too disappointed with the outfits chosen for the presenters/performers/audience members, lol!
Jennifer Lopez owned the night in fashion and performances, she also was working her Fiat hustle (get that money chica!) She looked amazing for being a woman of a certain age with twins and a recent divorce…
She began her first appearance with making fun herself (pretending to get emotional) and looking like a “Leopard Print Angel”, it was a perfect way to start her role as “performer of the night”.
Not only did she rock the stage with her amazing body and dance moves, she took home an award as well for Favorite Latin Music Artist! Congratulations Jenny from the block we see you still got it!! 😉
JLo is featured with Mick Jagger on the new single from Will.i.am “T.H.E- The Hardest Ever”
As I stated earlier, JLo also won an award for “Favorite Latin Music Artist“, she looked amazing in her dress and had a beautiful acceptance speech!
And as with any awards show night, the party continued at her Post- AMAs Party sponsored by FIAT and Grey Goose!!
Although she was the highlight performer of the night, many other artists graced the stage with amazing performances as well!

Did you watch the show? What were your favorite and/or least favorite parts of the night?

I have watched the VMAs since they started, mostly for the no holds bar fashion that it tends to attract there is always so much to talk about the next day…. It is guaranteed entertainment if nothing else, and this year was no different!
The regular red (or as last year white) carpet entrances of the celebrities was done with an interesting twist this year. First the carpet was black. The celebrities did not arrive outside to a long walk of carpet and screaming fans in bleachers on each side. All of the arrivals were held inside the lobby of the Hotel ( J.W. Marriott hotel in downtown Los Angeles) …. which could have been very boring by concept, but leave it to MTV to make it functional and innovative!! Some people walked into the lobby using the constructed white “sci-fi” tunnel or through a cloud of smoke down the “moving transport” aka- escalators… lol! The whole set looked very futuristic and appropriate for the event.
Rather than serve up the same-old same-old “step and repeat” entrance, where stars walk down a red carpet and pose for photographers in front of a wall with a logo and sponsor names, he came up with a series of giant undulating, rib-cage-like towers that would do something you’d never seen before. “I wanted something that would ‘hug’ the talent, to feel as if they are going, again, through a tunnel.~ Scott Storey VMA pre-show production designer

Of the course the major highlight of the show is to see what the artists/bands/celebrities will wear to this music and fashion event! Selena Gomez was one of the interviewers of the evening and looked very elegant edge chic in a lacy short dress with a full lace train. The cast of the Jersey Shore kept us wondering who if anyone helps style the ladies, the guys were all on point with young GQ type style. The only other situation with the cast arrival was the abscence of “The Situation”. Justin Beiber was looking young YSL nerdy with a pop of color by way of his brightly hued red pants as he was adorably interviewed by his lovely girlfriend as he held a pet snake named “johnson”… haha! Pre-show performers Cobra Starship kept their style very dapper euro skinny suits as their featured artist Sabi had a sexy casual look with deconstructed metallic skinny pants, white blazer, and red top. Demi Lovato looked amazing in a form fitting and v-plunging shimmer dress, it fit her curves with perfection. The cast of Teen Wolf looked age appropriate and show appropriate… Dark, trendy and lots of skin (leather). Brittany Spears’ look of a black zigzag sparkle short suit ensemble was understated and better than we had seen her in awhile.
The most exciting arrival of the night was one that included an arrival that won’t be here for a few months… Beyonce annouced (via paparrazi pose on step and repeat) that she had a surprise as she laid and separated her hands above and below her newly growing baby bump… So happy for soon-to-be Mama-diva Beyonce and Mogul-father JayZ!!
Lady Gaga did not make a “black carpet” entrance, but she made an equally interesting monologue entrance as her male DragKing ego – Jo Calderone!
Here are some of my VMA highlight favorites:
