Plus Style: The Kimono

“Plus Style” is a new series that will be featured on the Dose of Vitamin F blog. These posts will focus on style advice or tips for the plus size fashionista. Feel free to leave comments or email info@doseofvitaminf.com with any suggestions for what we should write about or what you would like to see more of under this category.
For the first post in the Plus Style series, my client Theresa asked me to show her a few examples of how she could wear the popular trend – the kimono.

Plus Style: Kimonos
For some reason Theres felt like because she was a curvy woman she would have a hard time wearing a kimono in a stylish way. Silly, right?! Well I told her that this is a great trend for women of all shapes and sizes and I wanted to prove that she was one of those women. We agreed that I would make a mini look book for her to review and take inspiration from for her own kimono style options. I ended up editing the examples down to five different kimonos in a variety of different looks.
Mini slideshow with details below:

Look 1 features a striped knit kimono that is best worn as a casual look with denim shorts or jeans and a complimentary colored top. Perfect as a layering piece for a cool summer night.
Look 2 features an open knit sweater style kimono with fringe hem details. This is a great layering option for a look that you might want to be slightly dressed up yet still quite casual. A maxi dress or t-shirt dress is a great option here.
Look 3 features a printed lightweight semi-sheer relaxed fit kimono with purple fringe hem detail. Since the kimono is colorful and lightweight it almost acts as another accessory, so it’s best to keep the rest of the look in solids that compliment the colors in the print.
Look 4 features a black and white floral border neckline kimono. This kimono is a great option for a dressier look and a more classic style. Pairing this kimono with a printed pencil skirt or dress pants will upgrade the look for work or attending a nice event.
Look 5 features a printed kimono with a handkerchief hem. Since there is a lot going on in this kimono it is best to pair it with a solid outfit, like a maxi dress or jumpsuit. This could be a great option for happy hour or a night out dancing.
So what do you think? Which looks did you like best?
