In 2005, founder Sharmadean Reid had created a “London-based fanzine”, known as WAH that became a hub for all things music, fashion and “street smart feminism”. By combining her love for nail art and her talent for spotting trends Sharmadean decided to conquer a missing niche in the London nail salon industry. Now, just four years later, WAH Nails has become a high-demand brand that creates nail art for the masses!
It’s just a small thing people notice..but when they do look down and they see you have something different.. they’re like “OOOHH! I wouldn’t have thought that”…You know it can sometimes be an element of surprise.. It’s like wearing hot pink socks under a business suit..nice little finisher. -Sharmadean Reid
In 2008, Sharmadean (an experienced trend consultant), had an undeniable feeling that the unique nail art she and her friends had been sporting for years was about to hit the mainstream. She noticed that nail salons in New York and Los Angeles had really cool nail salons, but when she would return home she questioned why the local nail salons in East London didn’t have these “cool” nail salons as well. So she decided she was going to open her own salon where you could have “Whatever you wanted on your fingertips”. It would be called WAH Nails.
London really needed, to me, a nail salon that would put it on the map. Well everything cool comes from London, so why not nails as well. I believe that nails is another way to say who you are, and to show your identity. It’s ten tiny opportunities to accessorize! – Sharmadean Reid
In the summer of 2009, WAH Nails opened its doors in Dalston, East London, becoming the “it” salon for creative and unique nail designs. The success continued throughout 2009 as WAH Nails did numerous shows at London Fashion Week, had parties for huge brands and designer labels, as well as a successful week-long pop up salon. These amazing fetes did not go unrecognized as Sharmadean was named one of the “15 people who will define the future of arts in Britain”. Then to “top” it all off, in February 2010, WAH Nails opened its tiny salon doors in one of the busiest, coolest shopping areas in the world - Topshop at Oxford Circus. The newest location has opened in the Topshop at Westfield Stratford City. The WAH Nails staff of creative nail artists has grown from 2 to a team of 20 since opening just over the past two years!
With the opening of the Nail Salons, numerous events and demands for tutorials, Sharmadean Reid is going full speed ahead with her brands success.
For her next venture, Sharmadean is releasing a tutorial book for all the “WAH GIRLS” across the globe. Available worldwide in July, The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art, Features 25 cool nail art projects you can do in the comfort of your own home, no nail appointment necessary!
