Fashion Industry Highlight- The Feathered Head

The wedding items that are most important (next to the dress, of course), are the bridal accessories! Whether you are a “traditional bride” or “fashionista bride”, the type of accessories you choose will help complete your “bridal style”.

This bridal accessories selection process was the inspiration that made Andie Cohen-Healy create her company, The Feathered Head. A unique and creative company that offers beautiful one-of-a-kind feathered headpieces for brides and party-goers, often incorporating vintage jewelry and other media. The story of The Feathered Head all began when Andie was preparing for her own wedding and she didn’t want the “cookie-cutter” type of bridal accessories, but instead wanted to that would make her stand out and reflect her personality. She then also thought about the actual ceremony and how lots of pet owners incorporate their various animals into the wedding, but the only thing is, Andie’s pets are chickens! Needing to find a way to incorporate her chickens, and figure out a unique bridal-wear piece, she had the great idea to fashion her hens beautiful, colorful plumes into a bridal head piece in place of a veil. When she received so many compliments on her one-of-a-kind headpiece, she created more pieces and that was the start of her business.

In addition to her high-end wedding and cocktail fascinators, headbands, hats, veils and clips, Andie has recently introduced other accessories including feathered boutonnieres and a few handbags. Just last year one of her amazing pieces was featured on The Today Show during the coverage of the Royal Wedding!

With so many options to choose from, it was hard to decide which items to cover in this article! Since wedding season is almost amongst us, I think that if I were styling a bride for her wedding day…I would want her to go with the fascinators! So here are the top 5 choices:

1) KELSEY – $115: The fragile, ethereal image of the butterfly is deeply embedded within us. Seeming to float on air, Kelsey’s butterfly wings are made of delicate ivory feathers with brown painted detailing and her body is a soft mauve. Her ivory sinamay mesh loops dip and swirl in wonderful circular formations. As you walk, this fascinator’s white rooster and biot feather side accents bounce and dance to give lovely movement to your gait. Ideal for summer parties, weddings or even every day.  White satin wrapped clear comb on back. 8″W (with side feathers) x 3.5″ H
2) ETIENNE – $265: Like a magnificent work of art from one of the Masters, vintage Etienne inspires the senses. She is an impossibly chic yet romantic iridescent pale pink sequin bandeau-style headband (or half-hat)/fascinator with silver seed beads outlining intricate “petals”. Delicate, almost invisible tonal mesh connects three rows of sequined designs on top of headpiece, which overlays a pink velvet base. Already one-of-a-kind, she goes one step further by featuring a (neutral) champagne-colored vintage straw accent reminiscent of wheat on one side. Etienne is so different and elegant she can take the place of a bridal veil with grace and ease. Or project 1920s/1930s sophistication at a black tie event or cocktail party.
3) TAMSIN – $110: Is she a hat? Is she a veil? Is she a fascinator? Is she a knock-out? Yes, Yes, Yes and absolutely Yes! Tamsin is a darling vintage headpiece of many personalities: a birdcage veil featuring a profusion of flirty and flowing light ivory ostrich feathers all over her crown. A delicate matching ivory French netting birdcage veil extends down below the nose and can be angled for just the right amount of alluring charm. She is so versatile she could star at a bridal party or cocktail party! Tamsin’s design is simply a 4″ round base (no comb) which sits on the top or side of your head (use bobby pins for extra security). Once affixed, her billowing feathers extend upward and outward for fabulous design and movement. Her style is so “of-the-moment” and her condition is so perfect that it’s hard to believe she was not born yesterday! Feathers 10″ across, veil 6″ from base.
4) CADENCE – $110: This textural fascinator in sepia tones evokes a bygone era of glamour. Cadence draws you in with her warm copper, gold, brown and ivory tones and then keeps you there with her detailed architecture. Copper loops surround marbled and speckled vintage stones in her center from which neutral-toned turkey feathers emanate to form a flower. A sprinkling of RIR rust and mottled Wyandotte feathers dance with ivory biots for an elegant effect. Faux-pearl sprays can be pointed in any direction. May be worn with or without a bridal veil. Alligator tooth clip and pin on back.
5) LIANA – $110: No need for color with these kicky, multi-textured fascinators! Liana is an oval-shaped, folded ivory sinamay rose with textural petals and white partially stripped feathers. Although there are three headpieces available, no two are exactly the same (length and position of feathers will vary). Liana is perfect for a single bride, or a 3-person bridal party when you want a unified theme but the ability to express individual looks. Or how about an mother-daughter ”twin” look? You simply can’t go wrong! Clear comb on back.
